Can't Set Home Page - Driving Me Nuts RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are working on a new image of our public PC's running 2.5.

We have our profile set, we have our settings in IE in place, including setting the home page to our library web site.

As soon as we lock SS everything works great EXCEPT IE7 forces us to MSN - .

I have tried many of the suggestions here and am in hopes someone has something they can offer, please!

    Thanks,

  • Hi Chad,

This behavior can be caused by several reasons.

First of all, please make sure that in Windows SteadyState, your user profile is not locked. If the Home Page still does not change, please temporary disable the anti-virus. If the issue persists, temporary uninstall the anti-virus, and then check the result.

If the issue still occurs, in Regedit, navigate to this key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

In the right-hand pane, right-click the "HomePage" value, then select Modify. Change it to: 00 00 00 00

Also change either or these to zero 0 instead of 1 if present:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

If you don't have this key, browse to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and in the right hand pane, double click "Local Page" and set equal to "C:\WINDOWS\System\blank.htm" (no quotes) which will hopefully set your Home Page to blank and then allow you to subsequently modify it using Internet Options.

    Exit regedit and reboot.

When you reboot, you should be able to change the home page again.
