Getting Project Fields in its respective Project Site for that particular project. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Applies To: Project Server 2010, Project Sites 2010

Environment: We have implemented Project Server 2010 where we have projects published and generated project sites for each project.

Requirement: Populate a custom list having "% Complete" (built-in field) and 1 custom field "Manual Percent" (which contains certain formula in Enterprise Custom Field). However, the data should be respective to its project. For e.g. Project1 project site should show the data values for Project1, Project2 project site for Project2 and so on.

    How can I achieve that?

    Thank you and

    Regards

  • Hi Tanzim,

There can be many ways to display the project custom field in a project site. For example, you can add a SSRS report which get the data based on the project URL from reporting database.

    SELECT [ProjectUID]
                ,[ProjectWorkspaceInternalHRef]
      FROM [MSP_EpmProject]

Once you have the Projectuid & you can get the desired custom field data from MSP_EpmProject_UserView.

    - Alternativey, QueryString filter might help to load the data of a project using the Reporting database.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thank you Amit,

I need to get the values in custom list and not to show in SSRS.

  • Hi there,

There is a solution starter that gets the project custom fields in the project site:

    http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/P2010SolutionStarter

      • Workspace Project Custom Field Web Part (7/21/2010)
      • Web part to display Project Custom Fields on the Workspace.

The source code might help you / give you a head start to write your own web part / custom solution.

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Thanks Paul for reminding about the Workspace project CF field webpart :)

Tanzim -- This is the best possible solution.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Amit,

Even though Project Custom Field Solution Starter is great, but I still like your idea better regarding a custom report. Though I would be keen to know how to pass the parameter just like we can do in Project Detail pages using Query String Filter and using 'ProjUID' as the parameter to pass to the custom report.

I understand that the URL is the unique, but I am a bit stuck on getting the curent Project Site URL and passing it as parameter to the report.

Any help (as always) would be great!

    Thank you,

    SJ
