Avaya Option 61c with the Microsoft polycom lync phones RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are planning to change our phones to polycom CX series. We have Avaya option 61c with Rel.7.5.

Will the phones works as SIP phones or will we need a gateway?

  • The Polycom CX series phones are Lync-specific SIP phones and will only register with Lync.  These phones actually run a modified version of the Lync client, and therefore will not work directly with any other PBX.  If you would like a subset of your users to leverage Lync as their voice platform, you can configure integration between your PBX and a Lync server.  Depending on the connectivity options available on your PBX (TDM, SIP), you may be able to communicate directly from the PBX -> Lync via SIP.  Otherwise, you will need a qualified Voice Gateway to provide interoperability between your PBX and Lync.

  • Compatible IP phones run manufacturer OS and do not require gateways for interoperability. They are fully tested and qualified to provide direct connectivity, core call functionality, presence awareness, and server management and provisioning.  You need to deploy DHCP server. if you want to connect with PBX, you need to deploy gateway.
