Issue with migrate users - login already exists. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My company are currently migrating users into a new domain. All users get a new AD account.Part of this process is also that we "migrate" these users in
SharePoint, giving them the same access/permissions as before but with a new account.
In the best case scenario, by the time they get their new accounts we already have migrated them in SharePoint (stsadm migrateuser with SID history) and everything should be fine. However, there will be scenarios (for various reasons) where we won't be able to migrate them in SP before they start accessing sites with
their new account. There is a trust to the new domain so they will have access.

When users are accessing sites with their new account (and we don't have had a chance to migrated them yet) an "item" is created in the hidden Users list on the site collection(s) and in the database table (I assume) . When we then later try to migrate the account (stsadm migrate user with SID history) this fails becuase the new login "already" exists.

This is of course a big issue. Any one have a solution to this? (that doesn't involve doing database deletes)? Or is this the only way?

  • Hi,

Try migrating by ignoring SID history.
