Shared Distribution Points - Pre - reqs RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think this was answered in the old beta forums - pity they werent archived.

I enabled shared distribution points and nothing happened. What exactly should one see in 2012?

I vaguely remember someone saying that the shared distribution point in 2007 must exist in a boundary in 2012. Does this boundary have to be assigned to a boundary group for content location?

I have checked http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712275 but maybe its missing something? Or am I missing something?

    Thanks

Boundaries in CM12 do not have any functionality if they are not added to a boundary group.
A shared DP (and the same is true for every DP) must be assigned to a boundary group for content location, otherwise it will not be returned in a content location reply.

  • I migrated the boundary from 2007 containing the dist point, added it to a boundary group and enabled it for content.

I still do not see any shared DPs.

  • The boundary (group) does not have to contain the shared DP. It has to contain the subnet, AD site etc where the *clients* are located.
Where don't you see any shared DPs?

  • I already have a boundary group for my clients.

Under Administration > Migration > Source Hierarchy I select my ASH and click the "shared distribution points" tab. Nothing is displayed.

    Thanks

  • Have you seen http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712275.aspx#About_Shared_DPs_in_Migration, especially "Eligibility for Upgrade of Shared Distribution Points on Secondary Site Servers"

  • Thanks,

We dont have secondary sites and I dont inend to upgrade the shared DP, just use it. I am aware that to upgrade you need it as a stand alone role but I didnt think that was a requirement just to use it.
