  • SRV records are special records in DNS which allows clients to find special services in an Active Directory domain.  Visually, they are preceded by an underscore "_" character in DNS.   They are required for the proper functioning of an AD domain.  Read more about them here at this Microsoft blog:  DNS Records that are required for proper functionality of Active Directory

    Examples look like this:

    _ldap

    _kerberos

    AS said by Todd, SRV record help client to determine a service like kerberos and ldap.

    For example , Domain Controller Locator mechanism is based on SRV record to find the closest domain controller.
