Lync Auto Location - VPN not set RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have configured subnet locations on the lync server - working within the office is fine it picks up the location based on IP, however when i set a new one for VPN access into the office from a specific ip subnet example; 172.20.100.0 it does not auto fill even though my ip address is 172.20.100.10.

I noticed that some people mentioned this due to having mulitple IP's when on VPN but my 172.20.100.10 is the preferred IP so surely the Lync client picks this as my IP address? Is there a way to force Lync to look at your 'preferred' IP address and ignore the rest?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

"The Lync client does not automatically populate the location when there are active connections to more than one subnet since there's no way for it to know which one is the "correct" one to use."

  • Hi,

Generally it is recommended you don't publish any VPN subnets in your database. Since users who VPN in could be physically anywhere, you may don't want to have their location be set to the office when they're really at home.  When a user is at home, they can enter their location information manually.
