Registry Editor for MS Outlook RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello:

    I have a user that is having problems downloading attachments from her home using our work computer.  It used to work before and now there is a security msg that appears that will not allow her to log in and/or open attachments.  Here is the registry key icon we used that work before and i'm wondering if there is something that needs to be changed.

    Filename: IE At Home

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

    "ProxyEnable"=dword: 00000000

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

    "Start Page" = "mywebsite.us"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient]

    "NameServer" =""

    Filename: IE In Office

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

    "ProxyEnable"=dword: 00000000

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

    "Start Page" = "mywebsite.us"

    Thank you for your help,

  • I had a "typo" for the Filename: IE In Office

    Filename: IE In Office

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

    "ProxyEnable"=dword: 00000001

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

    "Start Page" = "mywebsite.us"

    Thank you,

  • Hi,

    Is the issue that the user can't download Outlook attachments at home while the proxy is turned off?

    You mentioned "there is a security msg that appears that will not allow her to log in and/or open attachments", what is the security message then?

    It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

  • Hello:

    Now the user clarified it more. She said the email works great. The problem is that she can't open a word document that is attached to the email.  It says, "An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run Setup and select "Repair.."to restore this application".  Now when she is at work, there is no problem opening attachments.  Only when she works at home.

    Thanks you for your help,

  • It is also possible that the registry key entry of Microsoft Outlook has been corrupted. Microsoft Office applications may not be able to retrieve the correct information when trying to access the simple MAPI interface of Microsoft Outlook. To repair this problem, you would need to edit the registry and delete the registry entry of Microsoft Outlook. You can then launch Microsoft Outlook and click on the Detect and Repair entry under the Help menu. Microsoft Outlook would automatically detect the missing registry entry and restore the correct values.
