Application Pools on our 2003 server

    x.ASP (clasic)

    x1.0 (.net 1.1)

    x2.0 (.net 2.0)

    1. Can we have the same application pools in IIS 7x? Are there any glaring exceptions?

    2. Dot.Net 1.1 - what do I need to do/know to use a web application written in .Net 1.1 on our 2008r2 server?

2b. Can I install the 1.1 .Net download to our 2008r2 server?

    3. Dot.Net 2.0 - will our existing 2.0 web applications be able to use what I'm seeing in IIS 7x?

    4. Assuming that we can use our existing web applications in the 2008r2 web server IIS 7x - In the past when I've updated a web site/application, I just copy & pasted in everything except the web.config; will I still be able to do that or are there new requirements for IIS 7x?

  • Hi,
Application pools are still supported in IIS 7.5. ASP.Net 1.1 can be
installed (an I would guess 2.0, though it does not have 2008 R2 listed
as a supported OS) and you will need to ensure that the ASP Role Service
for IIS is installed when you deploy 2008 R2. This version of 1.1 is
    supported on 2008 R2:
You should also be able to copy in the necessary content to the
directory referenced by a virtual directory.

  • Mike, Thanks for this reply.

When I downloaded and tried to run the 1.1 I received the msg that the upgrade patch cannot be installed... because the program to be upgraded is missing. I've not found the 1.1 or 2.0 installs only sp's that give the above msg.

I'll keep looking... I was hoping that running legacy web apps on Windows Server 2008r2 would have been well published?

  • Found this (not sure why I didn't before...)

Still getting an error, suspect is the machine.config edit, which I'm not able to complete due to permissions. I made a copy w/the edit and I'll ask the admin to either give me permissions or copy the file there
