Import Spreadsheet Date/Time Trouble RRS feed

  • Question

  • Preface: Spreadsheet contains two date fields. One is used as an "Discovery". The other is "Last Found". Values are similar to; July 1, 2012 7:00am and Aug 1, 2012 7:00am.

When importing into SharePoint, the two date/time fields are converted into single line text fields... not dates as one would think.

I attempt to filter try to filter my view based upon the two dates. I want to only display records that are older than 90 days but anticipate since the fields are txt and not dates the filter is failing.

I have also tried taking the two fields and create two new calculated fields and setting the value to Date/Time. The calculated fields do display as Data/Time.  However I can't seem to filter the view on the calculated fields.

  • You'll need to change the format of the information within the column in the spreadsheet before the export for this to work.  Take a look at the settings for a SharePoint date & time column, you'll see this.

As you can see, it'll accept the DD/MM/YYYY format (or whatever your locale is set too).  Excel has a greater range of date formatting options but these mostly translate into single line of text upon being imported.

Just changing the column formatting within the spreadsheet wont work.

    Hope that helps.
