How to make my Blog site collection visible in another site collection

    Question

  • Hi - We have a Public website and I am unable to create a blog as a subsite - the template is locked down and the option is just not available

So I have created a blog site collection in the same web app. This is a HNSC web app so the public site is http://public.com and the blog is on http://webapp/sites/blog

How can I make the blog posts visible on the public site? I looked at the web parts and there is no blog web part for displaying blog posts that I could see. Search web parts? Maybe but is that the best/only option?

    Thanks

  • Hi jonjames,

Is the public site referred to host named site collection in SharePoint 2013 on-premise?

You can use search web part to display items from other site collection.

Besides, to show a list from other site in SharePoint 2013, you can save the list as an template in blog site, then uploading the template to the public site, create a new list in the public site with the existing list template.

Or you can use PowerShell to export a site, list, or library and then import a web, list, or library to another site collection:

    Export-SPWeb "http://sp" -itemurl "/Lists/ct1" -path "c:\test.cmp"
    Import-SPWeb "http://sp/sites/team1/" -Path "c:\test.cmp"

  • Thanks but exporting and importing and exporting is not going to work

Re - the Search web parts - which one? Content Query or Content Search? Can they actually surface blog content from another site collection or just subsites?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Blog template is not available for Subsite and publishing site. To enable it, you need to enable this template available at subiste.

Site settings-> Page Layout and Site Template Settings

Select the radio button "Subsites can use any  site template" and select the "Blog" template and add it.
