Workaround if you are encountering "logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" error during VM conversion using MVMC RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • If you are trying to do a VMware VM conversion using MVMC through the user interface and encounter a "logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" error here is a possible cause and an associated workaround.

    Possible cause:

You are entering the credentials (username and password) in the page that allows you to specify the details to connect to the Hyper-V host. There is a known issue to copy disks to the UNC path specified on the Hyper-V Host page using the specified credentials. See the details and screenshot below for how you can workaround this issue.

    Workaround

In the page that allows you to specify the details to connect to the Hyper-V host  do not enter the credentials (username and password) but instead check the "Use my Windows user account" option.  See screenshot below.

Note This option requires that the account that you are using to logon to the machine where you are running the conversion should be a member of the administrators group on the destination Hyper-V host. This account should also have write access to the UNC path that is specified.
