Can't install Office 2007 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 64-bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having problems installing Office 2007 on a server running Windows Server 2003 SP2 64-bit.

    It keeps crashing once I start setup and then the log shows:

    I've tried Office 2007 Pro, Office 2007 Small Business...nothing seems to work.

    Any ideas on what I can do to get this installed?

  • Hello Divins,

    This error can occur when there are remnants of a failed/incomplete Office 2007 install on the machine. I’ve seen this error before when keys under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 exist. Another reason you may see this is if this key is present:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook]

    "BlockOutlook12"=dword:00000001

    If this key is present it means you have Exchange installed, or had it installed at some point. Exchange and Outlook on the same machine is not supported.

    My suggestion for you is to run a cleanup script for Office 2007 on your server to remove any failed/incomplete Office 2007 files from your machine. You can run a Fix It that cleans Office 2007 suites here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

    If you continue to get the error after running the Fix It you should rename the following registry keys if present:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0

    HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0

    Once renamed, run setup again.
