Problem with Code 12: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm having some trouble with my graphic card when I've installed Vista. The problem is that when I checked the device manager list and my HD 4870 Graphic Card wasnt listed there. And I'm not able to find any "Display devices/adapters" in the list. All I can see there is a yellow ! at one of those PCI device which I'm not sure what that is. I've disable that in the device manager but it didnt show anything related to my graphic card still. I tried removing the external graphic card and boot up. The onboard graphic started working and drivers are being installed automatically. Then I disable the onboard graphic card but still doesnt work and show the same yellow !. I've been asking around and the answers that I usually get is "drivers related or onboard graphic card conflict."

I've disabled my onboard graphic card via device manager and BIOS which I selected PCIex in BIOS. Save and reboot, and it'll be a long wait for the boot (2-3mins) and the noise from my graphic card is loud as if I'm playing some hardcore resource hogging games even though it's not being detected in the first place.

The results are still the same until I've installed a north bridge driver which I believe from the latest driver of ATI for my HD 4870. Rebooted again and it starts popping up an error message which shows "Unable to detect any drivers for the hardware". I'm almost happy till I saw the list of devices in the device manager which I'm still unable to find "Display devices/adapters"

Except the same yellow "!" at pci standard bridge. (I don't have any cards slotted into any of the PCI slots, cept for the graphic card in the PCI-e)

    My mother board is M2A-VM

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your post.

This should be a hardware issue. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:

    1.    Please ensure that the hardware on the computer is compatible with Windows Vista.

    Windows Vista Compatibility Center

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility

    2.    Regarding the yellow exclamation, I suspect the driver for the HD 4870 Graphic Card was not installed properly or it failed to work. You can try to install the latest version of the ATI Graphics card driver to see if it works.

ATI Catalyst™ 9.4 Display Driver for Windows Vista (32 bit)

ATI Catalyst™ 9.4 Display Driver for Windows Vista (64 bit)

    3.    Please install the motherboard drivers for Windows Vista:

    M2A-VM Drivers:

Since the issue is related to hardware, it is recommended that you contact your computer’s manufacture for technical support.

For your reference, here is the contact information of ATI and ASUS as the following:

    1.    ATI

    2.    Asus Support:
