No permissions to download virtual disks from source virtual machine. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have been using MVMC to move some VMs from VMWare to Hyper-V and having success on some hosts but not others.  On the VMWare hosts I can't convert, it appears to be when trying to download the virtual disks from the source virtual machine.  In the following logs, the disks start and end the download in 1 second then starts the Restore process.

In vSphere I am a full administrator on the host but the same account doesn't seem to be able to access the disks on the VMWare host.

Any thoughts on to what permissions I need to set to get this to work?

    Kind regards,

  • Sean can you send an email to MVMCDisc@microsoft.com with the log file attached? What version of vSphere is it? What is the guest VM that you are trying to convert? Details on the disks that are attached to the VM will also be helpful. Are you connecting through vSphere or vCenter?

  • Please try to use the "real" admin from your vcenter. The Account to log on to your vcenter server must have the role: Administrator.

I don't know what is the default config, but in my case the Account: "Administrator" only own the "Virtual machine power user" role.

To check your accounts click on the Permission tab in your vcenter server.

    Best regards
