Client installed - but nothing is happening RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have successfully pushed a client to a windows 2008 r2 test server in our dmz environment and looking at the ccmsetup.log on the client, it has installed successfully as I am able to see 'CcmSetup is exiting with return code 0' at the end of the log.

When I jump on to the client, I can see the 'Configuration manager' in the control panel and if I open it and go to 'Actions', I only see 'Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle' and 'User Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle'. When I select and run these, nothing happens in the logs or I do not see anything else appear in Actions.

Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

  • The client most likely cannot find or talk to a MP then. Check ClientLocation.log, LocationServices.log and ClientIDManagerStartup.log.

  • Thanks Torsten. That is exactly it.

Instead of connecting to MP in its local domain (London DMZ), it seems to connect to the MP in HK. Since the HK MP is not in DMZ, we blocked the access to this.

Surely if the Boundaries are set correctly (using Active Directory site name), this should work?!

    Can these be changed manually?

  • How does your site configuration look like? One primary with 2 MPs (London + HK)? If so: you can't determine/configure which MP to use.

We have 3 Locations (London, HK & US).

Each location with two MPs, one in local and one in DMZ domains.

Primary is in London local domain.

All on the same Domain Tree.

  • You cannot control which MP is used by clients then. That's by design and cannot be changed.
