External user unable to join SFB meeting using Lync client RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    Description:

2 FE pools in 1 lync site:

Pool 1 has Edge  Pool 1 associated.

Pool 2 also has Edge pool 2 associated, but currently Edge Pool 1 is being used for federation.

    Issue:

When user hosted on FE pool 2 creates meeting, external user unable to join using Lync client. It works with web app.

When user hosted on FE Pool 1 creates meeting, external user able to join using both Lync client and Web app.

I checked in Snooper and can see few error  there:

    SIP 2.0 401 unauthorized

    SIP 2.0 503 service unavailable

    Please suggest.

  • Hi Pawan11,

The function of joining Lync meeting through Lync Web APP is provided by the Reverse Proxy. You could refer to the following official document to find the details:  Setting up reverse proxy servers for Lync Server 2013. According to your description, it may have some problems with the Edge pool 2. As the Snooper shows the error: SIP 2.0 401 unauthorized, it may have something wrong with certificates on Edge Server, please make sure the certificate SANs as below:

In addition, please check the external DNS records in your environment, make sure you have configured the following records:

  • Hi Evan,

    Thanks for reply.

As i mentioned, Edge pool2 is not being enabled for Federation yet. Edge Pool1 is being used for federation.

We are in process of moving users from FE pool 1 to Fe pool2.

All certs and SANs are correct as normal federation is working fine from both FE pool 1 and FE Pool 2.

Anonymous user unable to join lync using lync client meeting hosted by user on fe pool2.

  • Hi Pawan11,

You also need to configure federation in the Edge pool 2, as the Edge pool has been associated with FE pool 2. You also need to enable “Allow participants to invite anonymous users” in the conferencing policy for the users homed on FE pool 2.
