FASTContent Recent Crawl Rate is always 0.00 after SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey Guys,

is it just me, or is the crawl rate always 0 after SP1 has been applied?

My FAST 2010 for SharePoint RTM server is quite happy to display a crawl rate, but my SP1 server only ever displays 0.

Nothings turning up in the admin reports around crawl rate either...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Craig

  • Hi,

My test image with SP1 installed happily reports crawl rates on the Content SSA.

  • Fix to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/rfT2bE and here: http://bit.ly/pIf3Zu.

You can identify this problem in the eventlog. It will present itself as an error with desciption

"The mount operation for the gatherer application <guid> has failed because the schema version of the search administration database is less than the minimum backwards compatibility schema version supported for this gatherer application. The database might not have been upgraded."

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Arno,

thanks for those two articles, but I'm not seeing either symptoms. And (Get-SPServer $env:computername).NeedsUpgrade reports false.
So I don't think it's the same thing.

    I'll keep hunting around.

    Thanks

  • Craig,

Did you try the steps in the http://bit.ly/pIf3Zu-article? Although the symptoms did not present themselves that clearly in my case this was the problem.

To double check: Are all your FAST-services started (services window in Windows Administration and nctrl status)? And do you have any SharePoint or Database errors in your eventlog?

  • Hi Arno,

My UPS service is running fine and there are no unexpected errors in the event logs.

I'm not entirely sure what the UPS service has to do with the Search (in particular FAST) App Service. Sounds like a red-herring..

Note: This was a fresh build, with SP1 slipstreamed, so it didn't need the usual de-provision/re-provision of UPS that is required when applying SP1 to an existing RTM.

    Thanks
    Craig

  • Craig,

For me the lack off access to UPS crashed the entire process. Don't why, but fixing it solved the crawl rate for both people and sites search.

If there are no errors in the logs and all services are running fine, I almost would assume the content sources you are trying index hold no content.

Did you try removing the content sources and re-adding them? If that does not work, reinstall the whole thing. That's what I would do :-)

In any case good luck. I know how frustrating these kinds of bugs can be.

  • Hey Arno,

it's crawling the content just fine, about 1.6 million items.  It's just the crawl rate that's bogus.

I guess I'll wait for the current crawl to finish, apply the Oct CU to SP2010 and the August CU to FAST and see if it cleans it up.

    Thanks
    Craig
