Change Installation path from C:\Windows to Something else RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

    -I've got a Dell OEM installation of Vista Ultimate;

    -I want to change from the default C:\Windows to something else;

    I've tried :

    1. use BCDEdit to change systemroot, path;

    then on the reboot - the Explorer doesn't come up (I have to press ctrl-alt-del to start task manager, then spawn Explorer from there)

    2. Written a script to enum all the keys/subkeys/values in the registry to write everything from C:\Windows to something else.

    But here comes the problem - TrustedInstaller has owner on a lot of the keys and it's a real drag setting permissions.

    is there an easier way to do this with WAIK, even with my OEM copy of the Ultimate? (ie not OPK standard DVD - and which I have no idea what is there).

    Thanks folks!
