Hotmail now blocked in Outlook 2019, Windows 10 or Office 2019 update causing this? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Active Directory domain with Windows 10 1809 clients and there's plenty of group policies managing the domain for business purposes. One a few sales computers there are Hotmail accounts that were connected to Outlook 2019 and working great for months, then suddenly last week Microsoft changed something in either Windows 10 or Outlook 2019 that's blocking them from accessing the account and/or forcing a Microsoft Windows account.

"Can't sign in with a Microsoft account

This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.

No group policies have been implemented in the domain in months, the issue here was undoubtedly caused by a Microsoft Update - does anyone have a workaround or know the update that caused this so we can back it out on these systems?

  • We found the group policy setting that allowed this to work again:

Computer policy | Windows Components/ Microsoft accounts

    - Block all consumer Microsoft account user authentication

We set this to disabled and it worked again. The administrator was trying to block all aspects of the forced Windows Live account BS and Microsoft consumer cloud crap from taking a foothold in the company.

Still curious what update occurred recently that caused this to happen... ?
