App V 4.6 Dr.Watson appguid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been deploying App V 4.5 and 4.5 SP1 via SCCM. For each install the appguid for Dr.Watson has changed and the documentation on technet has stated what the new guid is, so when doing a scripted install it knows what to do.

    With App V 4.6 i've noticed that the Dr.Watson is a different version and i need the appguid to complete my install. Can anyone tell me what it is?

  • Here's the GUIDs for the desktop client, I don't have the RDS client versions handy:

    Silent installing the Microsoft Application Error Reporting for App-V 4.6 x64

    MSIEXEC /I dw20shared.msi APPGUID={EF915533-A866-430E-A202-7A1DCDC8F789}

    Silent installing the Microsoft Application Error Reporting for App-V 4.6 x86

    MSIEXEC /I dw20shared.msi APPGUID={0A18234C-BF38-4394-928C-D7A72935895E}

  • Hello,

    There is guidance on howto find the appguid from the CU1 release notes;
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc817171.aspx

    See the note.

    I have informed the doc-team (as suggested on the documentation page) that the information is missing.

  • I'm having problems installing the MS error reporting tool provided int he support\watson dir. All APPGUID values I have tried have failed. Well, I say failed, the event log says its installed, but then trying to install the RDS x86 client and it says I require the MS error reporting tool?
    Has anyone got the APPGUID for 4.6 RDS x86 client please, and x64 whilst I'm at it.
    Nothing in the release notes: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee958115.aspx

    Thanks

  • Hello,

    See my posting above which has information in the link on what the APPGUID stands for and and what tools to use to extract it.

  • Thanks Znack. I had already tried using ORCA, and still having problems installing it. Maybe its not the GUID?
    Changing my deployment method from cmd line to using Windows Installer option (in RES Wisdom), with the appropriate parameters, I'm getting a successful install message in eventlog:
    Product: Microsoft Application Error Reporting -- Configuration completed successfully.

    But manually running the APPV 4.6 setup.exe and its saying I require Microsoft Application Error Reporting??

  • Hello,

    If you can not locate the proper GUID check the documenation or send a remark to the e-mail posted on the documentation page if the information can not be located.

    Usually its located within the release notes.

  • The cmd line I was using :
    msiexec /i "\\xxxx\Clients\SoftGrid\4.6.0.1523\x86\SUPPORT\WATSON\DW20SHARED.MSI" APPGUID={95120000-00B9-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} allusers=1 reboot=suppress REINSTALL=all REINSTALLMODE=vomus

    That is the productcode according to ORCA, so I'm thinking its not the APPGUID that is causing the problem.

    In fact I've just tried installing this manually using the cmd line. App-V install still says I require Microsoft Application Error Reporting.. Install using the setup.exe and manually choosing install to the Microsoft Application Error Reporting and I get a windows installer error?! It gave me the option of continuing, and it installed ok. Maybe I'm going to have to force an install?

    I'll try on a few more servers, maybe a problem with this one. I'll have a word with our TRM.

  • Hello,

    Since this then seems to be unreleated to the original posters problem, perhaps creating a new thread with the verbose log of such an installation?

  • I have created a new thread with my solution (use the setup.exe):

  • I've been looking for over 3 hours to get the right command for a silent install of dw20shared. Your command worked. Very relieved I thank you!

  • As a FYI as to how you would find this information out for the future releases I would use either of the following methods.

    To find the command lines run setup.exe and when it prompts you to install the dependencies click "Install". When the installer is ready to install the App-V client leave the installer at that phase. Open the %TEMP% folder. Look for a sub folder with a GUID such as {53786472-408A-4BBA-915B-510808E2CB8D} and you should set the App-V client setup.msi a bunch of .prq files and more subfolders with GUIDs for names. If you open the .PRQ files you can see the command line MSFT is using for each dependency.

    If you do not trust that method the other way would be to turn on MSI logging system wide using Group Policy (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300/en-us), reboot and install the client. Each of the MSI logs will state the command line used to install the application in the MSI log generated for each MSI installation. WILogUtil can be used to make the logs easier to view.
