How to change outlook 2007 phone number format RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Experts,

due to the rapidly increasing # of mobile phone lines (today 34 million in Sao Paulo) used in smartphones, 3G modems and tables, gps trackers, etc. the mobile number format in Sao Paulo (Brazil) has increased to 9 digits, gaining a leading 9 in front of it. The # format, which was +55 11 PPPP NNNN (55 = Country Code, 11 = Area Code) has changed to +55 11 9PPPP NNNN for mobile phones.

Behavior: When we manually add an 8 digit number to an outlook 2007 contact by using the "check phone number" dialog box (selecting "Country/Region: Brazil", typing "City/Area Code: 11" and "Local number: 88888888", and hiting "ok"), outlook inserts the number "+55 (11) 8888-8888" as expected.

However, if we add a 9 digit number, outlook inserts the number "+55 (11) 988888888" (without dash). No problem until now, but if we hit the "Mobile..." button again, the "check phone number" dialog box shows a blank "City/Area Code:" field and shows the "+55 (11) 988888888" number interely within the "Local number" field. Obviously if we hit ok, outlook inserts the wrong number "+55 5511988888888".

This anoying behaviour happens whenever we edit mobile number from São Paulo, forcing users to retype the area code field again and erase "+55 (11) " from the "Local number" field to have the correct number inserted.

Does that happen to outlook 2010 as well? If yes, is there a way to change the automatic formating to "+CC (AC) PPPPP-NNNN"?

    Thank you and best regards.
