Connection Issues with Downstream Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I have an upstream WSUS server which is unable to connect to a downstream server. I get the following error message ; "Cannot connect to <SERVERNAME>. Please make sure the Post-Installation Task is completed successfully in that server. If it was, please verify the server is using other port....."

The Post-Installation task has been successfully completed and it is not using any other port. The daily sync is successful, by the way.

Any pointers in the right direction are very much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Vinod

  • Hi there,

I have an upstream WSUS server which is unable to connect to a downstream server.

Something that may help tremendously in troubleshooting this -- The upstream server does not "connect" to the downstream server, it is exactly the opposite. The downstream server connects to the upstream server, and about the only time I've seen this not work is when the downstream server is not configured with the correct upstream server's URL.
The daily sync is successful, by the way.
Hang on a sec' here... please explain how "The daily sync is successful" == "cannot connect"???

  • Hi Nicolas,

The upstream server runs on Windows Server 2012 while the downstream one runs on Server 2008.

Yes, the port in use is the correct one = Port 8530, and SSL is not used.

  • Hi Lawrence,

Thank you for responding. Let me clear up on this.

Regarding the connection between the upstream and downstream server, what I meant was that I couldn't add the downstream server in the WSUS console of the upstream server. When I try to add, I get the error - "Cannot connect to <SERVERNAME>. Please make sure the Post-Installation Task is completed successfully in that server. If it was, please verify the server is using other port.....".

From the Synchronization tab, the daily sync between the upstream and downstream servers is shown as 'Succeeded'

I hope that you get the picture now.

    Regards,

    Vinod

    Gotcha.
When I try to add, I get the error - "Cannot connect to <SERVERNAME>. Please make sure the Post-Installation Task is completed successfully in that server. If it was, please verify the server is using other port.....".

This may be problematic simply because it's a WSUS v6 console trying to connect to a WSUS v3 server. I don't know whether that will work or not. Then, complicated by being an additional server in the console.
