How to set up a different retention period for a copy tape? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good time of day everyone,

We are backing up to tapes, and would like to have a copy of a backup tape.

Now, DPM has this option for each of the goals (WEEKLY, MONTHLY, YEARLY), witch is nice.

Our question is: How can we set up the copies of backup tapes to have different retention periods?

Example: weekly backup is made, backup to tape is made - expires after 4 weeks,

COPY OF A BACKUP TAPE IS MADE AT THE SAME TIME - EXPIRES IN, let's say A YEAR.

Is it possible with DPM 2012?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Tape copies are for the purpose of having fault tolerance or offsite storage. The different recovery goals cover your needs for longer retention requirements. There are no provisions to changing recovery goals of a tape copy.
