No full R version number in the installation path for recent MRO RRS feed

  • Question

  • I noticed that the recent MRO does not have the full R version number anywhere in the installation path. It only has two digits i.e. .../microsoft-r/3.3/lib64/R/... How do I install the next version, say 3.3.3 side by side with the current one?

The MRO 3.2.x series did have a full version in the path - twice(!), e.g. ...MRO-3.2.4/R-3.2.4/... so installing the next version without destroying the current one was easy.

The current convention makes any type of POC/QA work during the minor version updates inconvenient and error-prone.

    Thanks,

    Alex

  • The side-by-side install support for Microsoft R Open is intended for major.minor releases by design; it is not intended to support patch-level changes. However, for testing purposes, you could try a non-root install scenario with our current rpm installers, so you can install 3.3.1  to a personal directory and 3.3.2 to a system directory and have them both available.
