DHCP IPv6 Registration in internal network. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    We are running Server 2012 R2 DC with AD integrated DNS. The DC is also a DHCP server. We have configured scope for IPv4 addresses.

    We did enabled DNS name protection for a while before turning it off. I noticed, we have IPv6 addresses registered in the DNS, though we don't have any IPv6 scope configured.

    Is it because of DNS name protection that these entries made it into the DNS?

  • Hi Singh83,

    You could push out this policy to prefer ipv4 over ipv6 for clients

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters]
    "DisabledComponents"=dword:00000020

    See this KB for reference https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929852/how-to-disable-ipv6-or-its-components-in-windows

    Regards

    Simon
