Timesheet Line Rejected but Status Manager approved RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've observed the following in Project Server 2010 with Single Entry Mode enabled. Can anyone please confirm that this is expected behavior or a maybe even a bug?

    1. User submits time for a task in timesheet period 1. The timesheet is autoapproved as the user is his/her own timesheet manager.

    2. The Status Manager rejects the task update.

    Time passes.

    3. The user - unaware of the rejection of the line in timesheet period 1 - submits time in timesheet period 2.

    4. Upon submitting time in timesheet period 2 the user sees a popup message saying "The submitted timesheet contains lines that have been rejected. Update these lines on your timesheet and then resubmit it".

    5. The user sees the error and thinks it's weird because it's a new timesheet. The user goes ahead and submits.

    6. The Status Manager approves the task update.

    7. The Project Plan is published.

We've now arrived at a situation where:

    1. The rejected time submitted in timesheet period 1 has been approved by the Status Manager (as part of the second update) and is published in the project plan.

    2. The timesheet line in timesheet period 1 shows the line has been rejected but the actual work shows in the project plan.

We now have an inconsistency between the timesheet line status and published work in the project plan.

Is there anything that can be done to avoid this scenario?

  • Thank you for raising the concern. I'll would welcome official explanations from Microsoft and a link to a technical note that describes how to avoid it.
    Thank you.
