1607 boot image causes boot sequence issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have updated my boot image from 1511 to 1607. There is only 1 model that i have that has a problem. It is a Dell M4800. It applies the image fine but after the first reboot instead of booting to the drive, it boots back into IPv4 and loads my PXE boot image again. It should boot to the hard drive. When I image with my 1511 boot image it works fine. I did not update anything with the task sequence or any drivers either. If i go to the boot menu, I can manually select the hard drive and it will pick up where it left off in the imaging process but it's not automatically doing that. I am on the latest BIOS.

Is anyone else seeing this on any models or the M4800 specifically? Not quite sure what to try next.

  • I see this is an old thread.  Did you find an answer yet?

The only thing that comes to mind is if you're installing Windows 7 (not 8.1 or newer) on the M4800, and if it also has an NVMe hard drive.  We had some with NVMe hard drives, which Windows 7 doesn't support out of the box.

If that sounds like your scenario, it wouldn't be because of the boot image specifically. You'd want to apply KB2990941 immediately after the Apply OS step.

Create a package with the Windows6.1-KB2990941-v3-x64.msu file

Run command line (and disable 64-bit file system redirection)

    DISM /Image=C:\ /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows6.1-KB2990941-v3-x64.msu

  • I have reverted back to a 1511 boot image. I am deploying Windows 10. I didn't find a fix for 1607 so 1511 it is :)
