DPM 2010 not everything back's up to tape RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    So I have a backup to tape every friday and have enough room on the tapes for the backup. But for some reason only some things backup and it appears to hang when it gets to my SQL server, but only on some databases not all, now If I go through and delete/erase the contents of the tape it will backup everything no questions asked. So Im trying to track down the issue, in the event log I get  when it fails:

    Status: Inactive

    Stand Alone Drive Tape Library : Quantum LTO 3 Tape Drive

    Description: Job requires tape that is not available in the library (ID: 3315)

    #######################

    Status: Active

    Stand Alone Drive Tape Library : Quantum LTO 3 Tape Drive

    Description: Job requires tape that is not available in the library (ID: 3315)

    #######################

    The back up to tape job failed for the following reason: (ID: 3311)

    The job was cancelled. The user either cancelled the job or modified the associated protection group. (ID: 908)

    any ideas?

    Hi,

    During a tape backup if a tape becomes full and there are no other tapes marked free, Free (contains data) or expired in the library, DPM will raise an alert to prompt for another free tape to continue backup. It will wait for 1 hour by default before failing the job.

    This prompting timeout can be configured by the registry entry “PromptingTimeOut” under “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\1.0\Prompting”

    PromptingTimeOut:REG_Dword:43200000  (dec) = 12hrs

    The Formula is   (#hrs * 1000 * 60 * 60)

    1HR =  1*1000*60*60 =  3600000  decimal

    So for each hour to wait, multiply by 3600000.

    8hrs = 28800000  decimal
