DPM not truncating logs for Exchange on Hyper-V VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am having some trouble getting my new Exchange 2019 servers to back up using a Full Shadow Copy and thus truncating the logs.

This is my current set up:

DPM 2019 on Windows Server 2016

    Hyper-V host on Windows Server 2019 1809

VM Running Exchange 2019 on Windows Server 2019 1809

I have a Protection Group set up to backup my Exchange servers through Hyper-V RCT (no agent) using Express Full backup.  The Exchange servers are in a DAG and the VMs are on Hyper-V configuration 8.0.  When the backup runs, I see in the Application log on the Exchange servers that ESE is running a Copy Shadow Copy (ID 2009) instead of a Full Shadow Copy (ID 2005).  In the properties of the mailbox database, I see that Full backups are not being run, but I do see it recognized the Copy backup.

This same set up worked fine for Exchange 2016 servers running on Windows 2012 R2, granted the Hyper-V hosts were not using RCT at the time.

Any help would be much appreciated.
