Alias name and Primary SMTP address should be different - Exchange server 2007 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello All,

While creating new user account in exchange server 2007 by default primary SMTP address will be the same as Alias name. Recently i came up with a requirement where one of our development team is looking for an option where Alias name should be different from Primary SMTP address. Can you please guide if there are any option to change this default email policy where i can keep Alias name and Primary SMTP address name different ? I mean i should be able to change different name in Alias tab and primary SMTP address as per my requirement. I have attested the screen shot for your reference. Let me know if any more information required here. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Raghu.

I see no screenshot.  Nevertheless, it sounds like you need to create or adjust the Email Address Policy(ies).  EAPs allow you to automatically assign email addresses to recipients.

    See E-mail Address Policy (EAP)

  • Hi Raghu,

You don't need to change any policies, just for one user.

Run Exchange Management Console -> Microsoft Exchange on-Premises -> Recipient Configuration -> Mailbox -> Username -> Properties -> E-Mail Addresses tab -> untick Automatically update e-mail addresses based on e-mail address policy -> Add SMTP addresses -> Type Alias name (username@yourdomail.com) -> OK -> Select created e-mail address and click on Set as Reply -> Apply -> Ok

Let me know if it works.
