Azure SQL Database - The Best Option to Migrate the DB off the SQL Server 2012 Enterprise to the Cloud RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

In my scenario there is a SQL database which supports the Azure ADFS and is running on the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise on the physical server. Could you please advise:

    1. Can we migrate the database from the physical server to the Microsoft SQL Azure, keeping in mind that the database supports the Azure ADFS.
    2. What are the best practices and are there any instructions on this type of the migration.
    3. If the Azure SQL is not supported for the Azure ADFS then what are the acceptable alternatives?

    Many thanks, in advance!

Answers

  • You cannot use Azure SQL for your ADFS farm, even if your farm is hosted in Azure IaaS.

You can rebuild your farm using WID (then no SQL dependencies anymore).

You can deploy a SQL server in Azure IaaS.
