Callers don't hear ringback tone when Lync user forwards calls to a PSTN number RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here's a fun one.

We have a pretty basic Lync setup where all of our PSTN calls route out through Intelepeer.  If I have forwarding disabled on my account and dial my Lync number from my cell, I hear a normal ringback tone.  The same holds true if I have simultaneous ring enabled as well.  However, if I have Lync set to forward my calls to a cell phone, when someone dials my Lync number they hear dead silence until the call is connected.

For the life of me I can't figure out why.  I've tested with accounts that also have Polycom Lync desk phones, accounts that don't, leaving an account signed into Lync, and signing out of Lync.  Same results every time.

I can't seem to find any settings that would drive this, either.  Suggestions?

  • You shoul contact you Service provider Intelepeer or make a ocslogger trace to see if you sen the 180 ring sip message to the Provider if the call is forwarded to the mobile

  • Hi,

Have you tried to forward your work number to your Home Phone or Other Phone, how it is like?

  • I have tried to forward it to multiple destinations and the same thing occurs.  I have even tried several Lync accounts to rule out any potential account-related issues and again, it still persists.

I have a support call into Intelepeer and am awaiting a response from them to see if the issue is in our server or on their end.

  • Forgot to post this the other day, but Intelepeer says they're seeing normal activity on their end and said the problem must be within Lync.

If I forward an active call to a PSTN number, the caller will hear ringback but if I have Lync set to forward all calls they don't.

  • Hi,

We have tested it and had the same result with you.

So I think it is a default behavior.
