icons keep moving around RRS feed

  • How do I keep my icons to stay where I've put them. I have auto arrange turned off.

  • Does your computer save your settings properly when you log off/shut off comp? If it doesn't the desktop icons will show up where they were in the last saved settings.

  • OK, I'll bite ... how does one know if it saves them properly?  And what does one do if one doesn't?  I have had surprises before I configured it to ask me before installing updates but I am seeing them rearrange over night even without a reboot.

  • I’ve had to manually logout before shutting down, just shutting down the
    system does not seem to preserve the icons in the order that they were set.
    You can test this by creating a new desktop icon, dragging it to a
    particular location, and rebooting.
