multihomed network card how to assign ip to vm [solved] RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got a window 2003 server host with virtual server 2005 R2. I want to run a windows 2003 server virtual machine within this.

I've installed the VM OS, and got a portable extra IP from hosting company.

I've assigned the new IP to the host NIC and I can ping it remotely.

How do I get the VM OS to use this IP?

In the Virtual Network Properties of the Adminstration Website the physical adaptor is connected.  HOWEVER there is not way in that control panel to specify which IP address to use for the V??

And I've been told by the hosting company support to put the IP addresses of the new adaptor into the network settings in the host.

However this does not work, and I get "acquiring address" and a message that another computer on the network has the same IP

    Thanks

  • OK got this working with some help.

I'd added the new IP to the Hosts NIC,  which is completely wrong.  I removed all metion of it from the host nic and added it to the VM nic, and hey presto we there.
