Why is Link web part only showing 20 links? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently, I have a links list with 25 different links.  I added the link list to our main site but only the first 20 links show.  I modified the web part height to allow more space but that is not working.  After the 20 links it says "More Links".

How do I get all 25 links to show up on the web part without clicking on "more links"?   How do i change the view item limit?

  • Try changing the view.  Best practice would be go into the list itself, create a new view based on the default and make sure the item count isn't set to 20.  Make any other changes you'd like here.  Go to your main site home page, edit the page, and apply the view here.  It should now show items as you've configured them.

(Aside: no need for the "Help please" in your post once we are on it)

It's very suspicious that this isn't working - I have lots of Link Lists type Lists in my WSS FAQ sites (see sig) and I've never had this fail.

The field in a View you should be changing is the Item Limit field and it's best to used the first radio button option (= "in batches of the sprecified size"). Make sure you have confirmed with OK.

I'd check again by opening the View description in Site Settings, that the Item Limit field *has* been changed to 30.

Later: (after reading the above!). The problem is almost certainly that you are using a web part on a page and are not accessing the list itself. The *web part* version of a list will not be changed until you go in and modifiy the web part. Then you will see that it is using the "default view" - that is the view in the form it was when you first created the web part. You need to *once again* say that you want it to use the view you just changed. Now it will use the new version of that view in your web page.er

Even Later: I suspect that the above is what Steven meant with his "Go to your main site home page, edit the page, and apply the view here".  Clear if you know what he means but I hope my longer version is also clearer for people who have never done this before.

  • Whilst I appreciiate your lengthier response gives more detail than mine did, it still wasn´t wrong. It was an accepted answer for over two weeks and unmarking it as a response I don´t think is fair, when both could have been marked up, especially as I´m a forum member that doesn´t post for points nor comments on issues for which I´m ill qualified to respond too.

  • The unmark was done because of this reply

"I have changed the view limit to 30 but still only 20 links show up. Why? Help please."

which said that your post didn't help him.

I only posted my reply after he had replied to your question about which SharePoint.

You'll see that the propose as answer is still in place in your post encouraging the OP (or another Moderator) to mark your post.

Mike (I have enough points and can't do anything with the ones I have ...).

P.S. In view of the above I'm surprised you proposed my post !

P.P.S. The timings of the unmark and the two edits of my post give some idea of my thought process.

  • Well, I proposed the answer as it helped the OP out, seems pointless for me to make mention in a credit based points and not mark an appropriate answer.

Appreciate you explaining your thoughts too.
