Best Practices - SQL for secondary DPM server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I setup my production DPM (DPM1) on a host machine that's also running the Hyper-V role. One of the VMs on this host is the production SQL server for a few applications as well as DPM1.

When I setup the secondary DPM server (DPM2) would it be wise to configure it to utilize the production SQL server or should I setup a separate (local) SQL install on DPM2?

My preference would be to limit the cost of multiple SQL licenses.

  • Hi RIchG13,

I think a second SQL instance on a different server other then your production SQL would give you better redundancy for your DPM deployment. You can save on SQL server licenses by using SQL (local) that comes with DPM when you install the secondary DPM server.
