Exchange Server 2010 Pre-requisite problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys...a lot of the people are having similar problems as I am but their problem seems to have solved but not mine.. not sure what I am doing wrong..

I am trying to install evaluation version of Exchange Server 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Now, the  NetTcpPortSharing is set to Automatic, IIS is installed successfully and running as well as MS Filter Pack.

When I try to paste the command in Administrator mode of Powershell It doesn't work..

    1) Import-Module ServerManager     <-- WORKS

    2) Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework,RSAT-ADDS,Web-Server,Web-Basic-Auth,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Metabase,Web-Net-Ext,Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console,WAS-Process-Model,RSAT-Web-Server,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-Digest-Auth,Web-Dyn-Compression,NET-HTTP-Activation,RPC-Over-HTTP-Proxy -Restart <---- DOES NOT WORK.

What can I do to solve this problem?

  • I dont think Windows 2008 R2 HPC is supported for Exchange 2010, hence the error with installing the pre-requisites. See the requirements below;

  • Hi Kevin,

I would suggest you install those components, including NET-Framework, Web-Server,RPC-Over-HTTP-Proxy, etc, from GUID. To do this, click Server Manager/Roles/Add Roles. See te picture below:

Hope it is helpful. If the issue continues, please check the Application event log, and feel free to pose the question in server forum http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver/. Your understanding would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • I did in Administrator mode

  • Are you right clicking powershell and selecting "run as administrator" ?

Try this, run "Get-ExecutionPolicy" and note the value. Then first run "Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted". Then run Import-Module ServerManager" and finally the Add-WindowsFeature. Once you are done set the execution policy back to what you had noted by the set-executionpolicy cmdlet

  • Also does this work "Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework" after the Import-Module ServerManager ?
    Friday, December 16, 2011 4:45 AM
  • Did exactly what you said but didn't work. I ran

    1) Get-ExecutionPolicy and noted down the value. Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted <-Worked.

    2) Ran the Import-Module ServerManager command <-Worked

    3) Ran the Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework <-Worked

    4) Ran the final Add-WindowsFeature Command <-- DID NOT WORK :(

Please check the image, see if that helps.

  • I must also mention that I am installing Exchange Server 2010 brand new on a new Windows Server 2008 R2.. So, maybe something I may not have installed etc..?

Though, I have got Active Directory, DNS Server, Web Server (IIS) and Hyper V Roles so far. Not sure, if this helps?

    Saturday, December 17, 2011 4:14 AM

    Saturday, December 17, 2011 4:21 AM
  • Saturday, December 17, 2011 6:04 AM

What do you mean by Windows Core.. Do you mean the following needs to be installed..

  • Active Directory Certificate Services

  • Active Directory Domain Services

  • Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS)

  • DHCP Server

  • DNS Server

  • File Services (including File Server Resource Manager)

  • Hyper-V

  • Print and Document Services

  • Under "Hub Transport Role Prerequisites" I re-checked and it does have both Remote Registry and TCP/IP Netbios Helper service set to "Automatic".

It could be because the command was not successfully run in the PowerShell.

  • what edition of Windows 2008 R2 are you running (web, standard, ent, datacenter)?
    Saturday, December 17, 2011 5:07 PM
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition with SP1

  • Ok there is a new thing I have noticed..

    1) The command for Hub Transport and Mailbox works just fine in the powershell then for Client Access or all 3 together like I have been trying so far.

    2) If I Enable Local Area Connection 3 - Virtual Network. Then I get the following in the "Exchange Server 2010 Setup - Readiness Check"

  • Tushar I think you are right, it could be because the Exchange Server I am using is not supported with Windows Server HPC Edition. I will try to use Exchange on a different Windows Server and get back to you with the feedback in sometime soon.
