Delete files from the winsxs folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I know this is completely frowned upon and all literature I have seen has said do not do this but I need to ask the question again anyway.

I have a Windows 2008 server on my network which has run out of space on its C Drive, I have cleared down everything I can find to create space but I have now run out of ideas.

Looking at the files that are on the server a majority of them are in the winsxs folder and if I removed the ones dating back from 2008 to to 2010 I could clear down a lot of space.

Reading other articles on this subject some files are used as hard links and by deleting them I could cause major problems but will this still be the case when I am going back so far?

I only need to keep the server going for a nother month or so and then it will be replaced.

    Any advice gratefully recieved.
