Exporting and importing custom field information from Project Server 2013 from and to PWA instances RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to export the custom field information in a project from one PWA instance to another. I've added all CF's and lookup tables (with data) to the new instance so that is resembles the source PWA. I then save a Project Server project to an MPP and/or an XML file, within the XML file I can see all CF's and for some I can see the none encrypted values.

After that I connect to the new PWA instance with MS Project 2013, I load the MPP or XML file and try to import the project in the new PWA instance, neither way exports the CF values to the new PWA instance. In the end the project is present in the new PWA instance, I see all CF's but the original data is lost.

I wonder if there is a way to preserve the CF data when moving a project from 1 PWA to antoher, apart from using specific tooling?

    Rgds, Frank

  • Hi Frank,

As far as i can see, since its about moving the data not the custom fields, the only way to use is DB migrate to new PWA instance. Because logically, on your new PWA instance that data is not present at all.

in-case you want to move the DBs to your other environment, you can follow this post by Alex:http://epmsource.com/2013/05/08/migrating-project-server-2013-database-between-environments/

Database migration from 1 envrionment to another is a common task, and its relatively more simple in PS 2013 due to less number of databases to be handled.

    hope this helps.
