Project Web App database name RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

While installing Project Server I came up to the step to Create Project Web App Instance.  During this step I am to enter the Project Web App database name.  My question is do I enter any name I choose?  Or do I have to enter the Content Database name I created it the steps before.

I am following the below article:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662105.aspx

In this article under the section Create a Content Database it says "4. In the Database Name and Authentication section, type the database server name where you plan to deploy your Project Web App databases, and type a name for the database."

Then the next section Create a Project Web App Site step 4 is saying to name the Project Web App database name.  Does this name have to be the same database as above or seperate?

If seperate, why did I have to create the Content Database?

    Thanks for any insite...

  • Hi there,

You can choose whatever database name you like, I would use something like "ProjectServiceDatabase" or "ProjectServerDatabase" that way it is clear what the database is used for.

This database is different to the Content database. The content database is used to stored the PWA site collection, the Project database stored the Project Server data and config.

    Hope that helps
