Can Microsoft R Server do what Rstudio does? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi community,

I want to do what Rstudio Server does - run on the server, multiple users can log in via a browser and run their codes on the server.

Can Microsoft R Server do this?

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2, what else do I need to set this up?

    Thank you!

  • Nope, it doesn't work like that. Microsoft R Server is for hosting R on a cluster or a more powerful machine. Then Microsoft R Client can offload the processing to it. You could install RStudio and MRO Client on client machine then make a connection. However, only the specialty functions will take advantage of the increased processing power. This of Microsoft R Server as a distribution of R for servers.

  • RStudio can used with whatever version of R that you have installed but the Server version only runs on Linux today unless you'd like to attempt a port. However, we'll add something similar in an upcoming release with the capability for an IDE to use the R engine on a remote Windows or Linux server.
