DPM to move Databases RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am thinking of using DPM 2010 for our upcoming SharePoint 2010 upgrade.

Today if a database is becoming very large, then we move it to another server (we have 3 SQL Servers in our SP 2007 farm). This is done manually.

Can I use DPM for this? Just restore the DB from DPM to another server and then make SP2010 point to the restored instance and delete the DB on the original server?

  • Hi

You can use DPM 2010 to restore a SQL database in different ways.

    • Recover the database to its original location
    • Recover the database with a new name to its original location or to a different instance of SQL Server
    • Recover the database to a different instance of SQL Server
    • Copy the database to a network folder
    • Copy the database to tape

  • I have DPM 2010 currently running on a default instance of SQL.  I need to spin up a new instance of SQL, so I can install another DPM Server/database.  Eventually, I the DPMDB in the default instance will go away.  I would like to move the 2nd DPMDB to the default instance so my DBA will be happy.  What are the steps I need to take to move the DPMDB from a named instance to the default instance on the same SQL Server?

    Thank you,

    Candice
