  • Hi Jerry

Right click the Start Button and select Properties.

In the Privacy section, remove the check mark from these 2 options.

Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu.

Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and Taskbar.

Click the Customize Button. Scroll down and remove the check mark from the Recent Items option.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks, Ronnie.
I was annoyed that the 'Recent Items' had disappeared, I use it a lot.
I forgot about that detail in 'Customize', now it's back!

  • Ronnie,

I have tried to follow your instructions in Windows 7 Professional, but when I "click the Start Button and select Properties," there is no Privacy Section. My Recent Places are not filling in since I restored by system from OEM disks on a new hard drive, and navigating without Recent Places is a definite problem for me.

Is there any way for me to turn populating Recent Places on again?

    Many thanks,

    Sid Bursten

  • TO MODERATOR:

This is non-responsive regarding Recent Places, since following these directions only affects Internet Explorer, not Windows Explorer. Seems to be an answer to a different problem.
