Windows Update Error Code 80073701

Question

What the devil is Error Code 80073701 and why does it come up every time I try to update my Windows Vista Home Premium system? How do I get rid of the damned thing? This has been an ongoing problem since Sept of 2009. I just tried to update by installing these two bozos:
Security Update for Winows Vista for X-64 based systems dated 9-8-2009
Update for Windows Mail Junk Filter for X-64 based systems dated 1-12-2010
I keep trying and trying and all I ever get is Code 80073701. Windows Update encountered an unknown error. I click on Get help with this error and it's all ____ information that does not work dammit! Can anyone here help me or will you abandon me like everyone else has? Thanks I hope- keimanzero in Brookhaven PA-USASaturday, February 6, 2010 4:27 AM

Thanks a lot Dave I'll try them. Maybe they'll know something the other two dozen forums I asked don't know. Why can't I ever get a plain answer? It's like those blasted payday loan sites- all I seem to get is more lists where to get help. Thanks anyway and sayonara for now- K&KMonday, February 8, 2010 5:50 AM

Not sure if you resolved your install error but here is a link that finally had an answer:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/28e1776c-2a7a-490b-b3db-0be9c484eadb
In short, if you have any language packs installed you have to uninstall them before applying SP1.
It would appear SP1 install was not fully tested.
