MDT Deployment Share Rules not working for Specific Task sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey everyone,  I got an issue.  I am trying set up multiple rules in MDT but it is not working.  Basically everything gets default except for my NAT7SP1x64 task sequence.  It seems to be getting ignored.  I just want it to ask for computer name and deploy no backing up, no migration or anything.  here are the rules:

    [Settings]
    Priority=Default
    Priority=TaskSequenceID, Default

    [Default]
    OSInstall=Y
    SkipCapture=YES
    SkipAdminPassword=YES
    SkipProductKey=YES
    SkipComputerBackup=YES
    SkipBitLocker=Yes
    SkipLocaleSelection=YES
    UILanguage=en-US
    UserLocale=en-US
    KeyboardLocale=0409:00000409
    SkipTimeZone=YES
    TimeZoneName=Eastern Standard Time
    TimeZone=035
    SkipSummary=YES
    _SMSTSOrgName=Running Task Sequence %TaskSequenceID%
    XResolution=1
    YResolution=1
    BitsPerPixel=32
    SkipApplications=NO

    [NAT7SP1X64]
    OSInstall=Y
    SkipCapture=Yes
    SkipAdminPassword=YES
    SkipProductKey=YES
    SkipComputerBackup=YES
    SkipBitLocker=Yes
    SkipLocaleSelection=YES
    SkipUserData=YES
    UILanguage=en-US
    UserLocale=en-US
    KeyboardLocale=0409:00000409
    SkipTimeZone=YES
    TimeZoneName=Eastern Standard Time
    TimeZone=035
    SkipSummary=YES
    _SMSTSOrgName=Running Task Sequence %TaskSequenceID%
    XResolution=1
    YResolution=1
    BitsPerPixel=32

    Thanks

  • Basically MDT doesn't work that way out of the box. The rules in CustomSettings.ini are read and applied before you choose a task sequence, so TSID based rules won't be used.

    Since most of your TS Variables are the same you can ignore all those and just add the ones that matter to your Task Sequence directly.

  • You have a typo in your CustomSettings.ini, it should look like this

    [Settings]
    Priority=TaskSequenceID, Default
    Properties=

    In addition, you could use task sequence specific custom settings ini:

    1. Create new CustomSettings_%TaskSequenceID%.ini in your Control folder and put your TS specific settings in it.
    2. Modify your TS as shown in the screenshot below:
