SPS 2010 - How to Determine What to Backup for the Farm Restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

We need to determine what to backup (file folders, databases, web site configuration etc.) in SharePoint 2010 so we could preform a Farm restration. For instansce, may be there is a way to determine where the data is located based on the MS SQL Studio or SharePoint Administration Site. We have the following servers in the SharePoint 2010 Farm:

      • Web Front-End.
      • Application.
      • Query.
      • SQL Backend.

Thank you very much in advance!

Answers

  • Backup your farm using the cmdlet Backup-SPFarm, or an agent that supports SharePoint (e.g. a BacupExec for SharePoint agent).

  • Tracy, one thing I should note on this is if you have made any modifications to the web.configs for Web Applications and have not used the SPWebConfigModification class, you'll want to back up those web.configs independently.
