newbie needs help

  i am new to this forum so if this post is in the wrong section apologies.i am running ie7 with xp service pack 3.a pc security forum that i recently came across has asked me to add the domain to my whitelist.what is a whitelist and how do i access it to add safe sites to it?i have tried adding this site to the list of trusted sites under internet options but i keep getting the same request for adding it to the whitelist.all help appreciated
