DPM 2016 UR 2 can't backup Hyper-V 2016 VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a problem backing up VM hosted on Windows Server 2016 wiht Hyper-V Role.

SCDPM version is 5.0.322.0, on Windows Server 2016.

Host server: Hyper-V on Windows Server 2016 with latest updates.

VM: Windows Server 2016, Gen 2 VM with latest updates and installed Windows Server Backup feature.

When we try to make initial backup, we got an error: Replica is inconsistent and in Event viewer: Event 3106, DPM-EM...

Does anyone have any idea what's goging on here, because this should be supported scenario?

  • Check the Event viewer of the Hyper-V Host in question and check for VSS and similar errors and see how you can fix them. "Under the hood" DPM just uses VSS and colleagues to do the backups.

A fix could be as simple as rebooting the Hyper-V host to reset the VSS writers.

  • Hi Christian,

I have already cheked VSS writers with command  vssadmin list writers and everything is ok, reboot is always first option :), but without sucess this time.

  • Did you ever find a solution for this?

I'm experiencing the same issue with DPM 2016 RU5

Backing up HYPER-V vms in CSV on 2016 datacenter hosts.

    Let me know please

  • Yes, we have found solution. Our DPM was physical server with VHDX on D partition. After we changed DPM to VM and attach same VHDX problem was solved.

Let me know how is your DPM deployed.
