The Block Level Backup Engine service has been disabled. Enable the service and then restart Windows Server Backup

    Question

  • Hi,

I have install the Features Windows Server Backup, Command-line Tols and Windows Power Shell.

If i start the Windows Server Backup, it comes always the same allert: The Block Level Backup Engine service has been disabled. Enable the service and then restart Windows Server Backup.

The Service is already started, if i look in the Service view, also the VSS Service ist started.
But in Event Viewer it givs no Alert massage.

    -------
    What i have already do....
    1. Reinstall this 3 Features --> same Alert
    2. Start and Stop this 2 services --> same Alert
    3. set the Service on automatic --> same Alert

    System Propertis:
    Windows Server 2008 Standard / Service Pack 2 / 64-bit Operation System

    Please help me. Thanks.

    Hi

Can you check whether VDS service is started ? If not, try to start it and then run backup.

If problem persists , please re-send logs with VDS started.

    Thanks

  • Hi Swen

I tried to simulate this issue in-house but we did not hit this problem.

    1. We would need further information like Server backup Logs. Please send us the zip of following folder:

    %windir%\Logs\WindowsServerBackup

at email mgoyal-nospam@microsoft.com (Use the highlighted part only)

It will have logs of all previous successful backups too. If this folder has become big then , try to send the logs of the latest run which failed.

    2. And what command are you running to start the backup.
